Ohio has over 15 million acres of agricultural fields of which 228,000 acres are located in Knox County. Agricultural production accounts for about 67% of all Knox County land use. The average size farm is 204 acres with approximately 1,120 farms in the county. Multiple soil types, most of which are glaciated, are found in the county. Many of these soil types are favorable for crop production. The corn and soy bean production make up the largest portion of the agriculture industry.
Livestock generated the largest amount of farm income in 2000. Of that income, dairy products generated the largest amount followed by cattle, hogs, and poultry.
